Some mornings, I make Cream of Wheat hot cereal for about 80 people at the children’s Day Care in Oneonta, NY. Hot cereal feels good when the weather outside is 1 degree.
Kathy, one of my co-workers told me this story: Jenny (Kathy’s daughter) was a teenager and went to stay with her grandfather who was sick and needed some help. Jenny made him breakfast, put it in a bowl and set it before Grandfather, saying, “I know you love Cream of Wheat and so I made you some.”
Grandfather showed his delight and voiced his appreciation. Then happily, quietly, used his knife to cut the Cream of Wheat (more appropriately called Firm of Wheat) before eating the globs with a fork. He finished every bite.
Only later did Grandfather, never wanting Jenny to think her kindness was anything but perfectly healing, told Kathy (his daughter) and they got a good laugh.
Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. ~Mother Teresa
